Artistic Manifesto — Jonhmax

Music has always been part of the life of Marcelo Santos Melo, artistically known as Jonhmax.

His journey is deeply rooted in family: his grandfather was a traditional cordel singer, his father performed informally, and his mother expressed her faith through singing in church. This environment naturally shaped his passion for music.

Marcelo began singing at a young age in church. When he got his first guitar, he barely knew a few chords, yet he was already turning them into original compositions. Soon after, music became a serious path.

A defining moment came when his sisters — Mariana, a singer, and Maria de Fátima, a drummer — were invited to join a church band. While attending rehearsals, Marcelo was unexpectedly invited to sing. From that moment on, he never left the stage.

By 2006, he was already writing songs both for the church band “Toque Divino” and for secular projects, driven by a strong desire to form a rock band. While his sisters followed their own musical paths — from forró to punk rock — Marcelo remained devoted to songwriting, exploring new sounds and emotionally intense lyrics.

Later, he moved to Rio de Janeiro to pursue another passion: cinema. There, he studied screenwriting and audiovisual production, expanding his artistic vision. This fusion between music and storytelling also led him into writing, resulting in the book Jack Moneiy. Inspired by this work, he developed the conceptual album Fragmentos de Amaranthine, merging literature and music into a unified artistic project.

Today, under the name Jonhmax, he brings together all these experiences — from family roots to progressive rock, from church to stage, from cinema to literature — shaping a career defined by intensity, creativity, and authenticity.

All other elements — folk, Celtic, choral, electronic, afro, ambient, even silence — are not genre fusions, but emotional textures shaped by necessity.
Nothing enters for aesthetics.
Everything exists because it must.

His language is symbolic, cinematic, and often mystical — not by choice, but because deep emotion resists literal form.
When clarity appears, it comes as impact, not as structure.

His music does not speak about religion.
It speaks about origin.
About belonging.
About the feeling of home beyond definition.

Each album is a portrait of who Jonhmax was in that moment of life.
Not a collection of songs, but chapters of a consciousness in motion.

He does not seek a final style.
His style is evolution.
His identity is not a fixed place, but a constant process of becoming.

Jonhmax is a composer of states of consciousness.
An emotional architect of sound.
An artist who uses metal as a foundation to translate the soul into sonic form.

And this identity will never be finished —
because neither will he.
